Job Opening Title: Certified Athletic Trainer Location: Ramstein Air Base, Germany Start Date: TBD Job-Type: Full-time Job Overview Certified Athletic Trainer needed for supporting physical performance, readiness, and rehabilitation elements of the Pairing Health Nutrition & Exercise (PHNX) program with the goal of bringing preventative Comprehensive Airmen Fitness education to Airmen in the unit, building resiliency, enhancing human performance, and improving unit mission effectiveness. The primary focus of this position is enhanced squadron/unit mission execution, achieved by improved musculoskeletal resilience to optimize Airmen's physical fitness and performance in the operational environment and to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury. Also, to enhance the operational effectiveness and human performance of USAF operational units by temporarily integrating into unit operations, collecting and analyzing data regarding factors that adversely impact mission effectiveness, and developing and executing strategies to mitigate risks and enhance performance. Qualifications Have and maintain a prescribed certification approved by a nationally-recognized professional organization; e.g., National Strength and Conditioning Association: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS); American College of Sports Medicine, or Certified Exercise Physiologist (C-EP). Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification to include Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training. A Master's Degree from an accredited university program in physical therapy, athletic training, exercise science, exercise physiology, biomechanics, strength, and conditioning, or a related field is highly desirable Employees may be asked to pass a USAF physical fitness test (AFI 36-2905) at the male/female 30-39 years of age standards. May be required to work extended hours or rotating shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. This is a designated drug-testing position, the candidate will be subject to random testing for drug use. Professional knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodology set forth by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) within their Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification (CSCS) gained from certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist or Exercise Physiologist in order to assess/analyze individuals to determine effective programs of physical fitness, promote health, and ensure safety during participation in exercise. Knowledge of military concepts in the development of comprehensive human performance programs while centering on injury prevention, performance enhancement, and nutritional guidance. Familiarity with the DoD and U.S. Air Force Instructions (AFI) governing the duties and physical standards for active-duty personnel and continued military services, including but not limited to DODI 6130.03, AFI 48-101, AFI 48-123, AFI 48-133, AFI 48-170, AFI 48-145. While familiarity is preferred, training will be provided if the contractor does not have this experience. Knowledge of universal infection control guidelines and practices and accrediting agencies (e.g., AAAHC, TJC) medical practice standards. Knowledge of instructional systems development and learning theory, teaching techniques, and of mission and operation tactical concepts relevant to planning, delivering, and evaluating performance-based strength and conditioning programs. Knowledge of governing fitness and PT programs, strength and conditioning techniques, and principles, including core strength/stability, energy system development, multidirectional strength and power development, plyometric, and balance and nutrition, anatomy, medical terminology, and procedures Knowledge of state-of-the-art computer-based software and other instructional/evaluative material, current and highly specialized strength and conditioning equipment, facility recommendations and practices, training aids and devices applicable to program objectives, training effectiveness, and efficiency. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Observes and/or participate in squadron activities in order to identify physical and ergonomic stressors that increase the risk of mission-related occupational injury. Develops and implements initiatives to mitigate physical and ergonomic stressors and optimize airman performance. Provides consultation, education, and training to military commanders/senior leaders, physical training (PT) leaders, and medical staff on the subject of PT, fitness, and musculoskeletal injury prevention. Develops and establishes a culture of discipline, character, and mental resiliency within the individual Airmen and each group, combined with a scientific training program that maximizes power, speed, agility, mobility, and strength, to reduce injuries in Airmen. Administers health screening and fitness assessments, exercise prescription, progressive individual fitness programs, and demonstrates proper exercise techniques. Uses professional knowledge for planning, implementation, and assessment techniques and principles as they apply to the strength and conditioning/human performance programming and education sufficient to serve as training resource advisor/consultant. Applies operational concepts and missions sufficient to understand, plan, deliver and evaluate/analyze physical requirements and how strength and conditioning impact mission accomplishment. Applies knowledge of medical conditions and terminology as well as of human behavior change theories, motivational strategies, and counseling techniques to resolve the most difficult problems associated with uncooperative or unmotivated airmen necessary for rehabilitation. Applies skills in data analysis, fact-finding, problem analysis, problem resolutions, and the development of concrete action plans to solve problems. Uses written and oral communication to advise, counsel, influence, and make recommendations to management officials concerning medical, health, and administrative aspects of the Human Performance and IOS Program.
